The Cotswold Barn

The Cotswold Barn and surrounding hilltop countryside
A weekend at The Cotswold Barn

48 hours,
well spent.

A good day out, a table worth looking forward to, and plenty of time to come back to the Barn while the afternoon is still yours.

Our way to spend it

Let the weekend
take its time.

A couple of days here can hold quite a lot without ever needing to feel busy.

Choose somewhere you would genuinely like to spend the day, make a reservation you’re looking forward to, and leave a little room around both. For a slower coffee. An unexpected stop. Or simply getting back to the Barn while the afternoon is still yours.

You don’t need to see everything for it to feel like a very good weekend.

A little planned. Plenty left open.
Arrival afternoon

Settle in.

Bags down, something to drink and nowhere else you particularly need to be.

Your full day

Go somewhere lovely.

Give one corner of the Cotswolds enough time to enjoy it properly.

Before you leave

One last slow morning.

Breakfast, coffee and a little more of the view before the journey home.

Friday · arrival

Let the first few hours
belong to the Barn.

Check-in begins from 3 pm, which leaves time to arrive while there is still some day left.

Once the bags are down, there is no real need to go anywhere. Make a drink, open the bi-fold doors if the weather allows, or take the short countryside loop behind the Barn.

By the time you come back, everybody has arrived, the weekend has started and the journey here already feels a little further away.

Arriving at The Cotswold Barn
Friday evening

Nothing too complicated.

For a first evening, we like keeping things close to home. The Lion in Tredington is a short walk away and one of our own favourites, so dinner can feel part of the evening rather than a plan that takes it over.

Or stay at the Barn. Cook together, order something in, open a bottle and let everyone properly arrive.

Saturday

One lovely day out.

If this were our weekend, we would happily give Chipping Campden and its surroundings most of the day.

It has the beauty you came to the Cotswolds for, but there is enough to linger over too - independent shops, beautiful buildings, coffee, design and countryside all within the same part of the map.

01
Morning

Chipping Campden at your own pace.

Coffee, the High Street, a few shops and perhaps Court Barn if design and craft are your thing. Park once and give yourself time to wander.

02
Late morning

A little countryside.

If the weather is kind, Dover’s Hill adds wide views without turning the day into an expedition. Hidcote is another lovely option if a garden sounds more appealing.

03
Lunch

A table worth lingering over.

This is the sort of day where lunch deserves some room. Choose somewhere you genuinely want to eat and let the rest of the afternoon work around it.

04
Afternoon

One more stop. Or not.

Broadway works beautifully if everybody still feels like exploring. Equally, there is something rather lovely about turning back towards the Barn while the afternoon is still young.

Back at the Barn

Come back while
the light is still good.

One of the nicest parts of a day out here is knowing what you are coming back to.

Put the kettle on, pour something colder, open the doors and let the Barn have a little of the afternoon too.

Saturday evening

A table to
look forward to.

If there is one pub or restaurant you have been especially looking forward to, Saturday is a lovely night to make something of it.

Our Eat & Drink guide brings together the places we genuinely like, from easy local evenings to restaurants worth building dinner around.

And if everyone looks far too comfortable to go back out, staying in can be exactly the right answer too.

If the weather has other ideas

The weekend still works.

A grey day can still be a very good village day. Cold and bright is perfect for a walk followed by somewhere warm for lunch.

If the rain properly settles in, Stratford-upon-Avon, Compton Verney and the British Motor Museum all give you somewhere worth heading for without trying to pretend it is not raining.

And occasionally the best answer is a slower breakfast, another coffee and nowhere beyond the Barn until later.

Sunday morning

The last morning
is part of the stay.

Checkout is by 10 am, so we keep the last morning simple.

Breakfast together, coffee with the view and enough time to pack without the weekend ending in a rush.

And if home can wait a little longer, carry the day on after checkout with coffee in Shipston-on-Stour, a wander through Stratford-upon-Avon or one last Cotswold stop in the direction you are travelling.

The part we'd keep

Leave a little space.

There is more than enough here to fill every hour. We just don’t think every hour needs filling.

A lovely day out, somewhere good to eat and enough time around both to notice where you are can be more than enough for one very good weekend.

If somewhere feels too good to leave, stay a little longer.
