THE COTSWOLD BARN

Between the Cotswolds & Stratford

One stay. Two very different sides of the region.

A RATHER USEFUL SPOT

Close to the places you came to see. Far enough away to switch off.

The Barn sits in open countryside near Tredington, with Stratford-upon-Avon in one direction and the villages of the North Cotswolds in the other.

It means you don't really have to choose between them.

Spend the morning in Chipping Campden, wander Broadway in the afternoon, book dinner in Stratford - then come back to the quiet.

A second view of Stratford-upon-Avon

IN ONE DIRECTION

Stratford-upon-Avon.

Theatre, riverside walks and somewhere good for dinner.

Stratford is close enough for an easy day out - or simply an evening.

Go for the Royal Shakespeare Company, walk along the river, explore the old town, stop for drinks and stay for dinner.

We particularly like it in the evening, when the day visitors have thinned out and the town feels a little more relaxed.

IN THE OTHER

The North Cotswolds.

Chipping Campden, Broadway, Moreton-in-Marsh and Stow-on-the-Wold are all easy places to fold into a day here.

Wander rather than rush. Stop for coffee. Stay too long over lunch. Take the road that looks interesting.

The point isn't to tick them all off.

AROUND HERE

A few directions worth taking.

01

Chipping Campden

Beautiful stone, an elegant high street and an easy place to spend a slow morning.

02

Broadway

One of the classic Cotswold villages - shops, galleries, good food and a walk up towards Broadway Tower.

03

Moreton-in-Marsh

Useful, lively and easygoing, with cafés, restaurants and plenty of reasons to stop rather than simply pass through.

04

Stow-on-the-Wold

A little further into the Cotswolds, with antiques, independent shops and plenty of places for lunch.

A LITTLE FURTHER

Daylesford, Kingham & a slower sort of day.

If the plan is less sightseeing and more lunch, shopping, coffee and wandering, head towards Kingham and Daylesford.

This is the side of the Cotswolds we like for an unhurried day: beautiful countryside, good food and very little need for a timetable.

IF WE HAD TWO DAYS

We'd probably do one of each.

DAY ONE

Into the Cotswolds

Breakfast at the Barn.

Chipping Campden first, then on towards Broadway. Stop somewhere good for lunch and take the long way back.

Home before the light disappears.

Firepit, dinner, nowhere else to be.

DAY TWO

Into Stratford

A slower morning.

Stratford for the river, old town and theatre. Stay for dinner if something catches your eye.

Then leave the lights behind and come back to the countryside.

AND THEN HOME

The nicest part may be coming back.

Busy enough for the day. Quiet enough for the evening.

OUR VERSION OF THE AREA

Not everything needs to make the tourist list.

Some of our favourite places are the obvious ones. Some aren't.

Rather than give you an enormous directory, we're putting together the pubs, restaurants, walks, villages and places we would genuinely choose ourselves depending on the kind of day we wanted.

Somewhere for Sunday lunch. Somewhere worth dressing for. Somewhere easy with children. Somewhere we'd take the dog.
